Dominica’s Addison James won bronze in the men’s javelin at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, becoming the first Dominican to win a medal at the event
Dominica: Athlete Addison James has delivered a historic performance at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, placing third and setting a national record for Dominica by becoming the first Dominican athlete to ever secure a medal at the World Junior Championships.
Addison James competed in the Men’s Javelin Throw and delivered an outstanding performance, recording an impressive 73.89 meters throw to capture bronze.
The U20 Championships were held in Eugene Oregon from August 4 to 9, 2026, with Dominica being was represented by two athletes- Addison James and Kerelle Etienne and led by Coach Godwin Dorsette. Kerelle Etienne had competed in the Women's 100 meters, progressed to the semifinal round and placed 9th with a time of 11.67 seconds.
The Dominica Athletics Association has shared the athletes’ achievements on social media, celebrating them and extending their congratulations to them for their exceptional performances.
On the post on Facebook, the Association underscored the importance of the breakthrough for the future of athletics in the country, writing, “Together, these results mark a defining moment for the sport in Dominica, setting a new benchmark for future generations of athletes and reinforcing the nation's growing presence in international track and field.”
The Athletics Association noted that Team Dominica’s success followed a period of intensive training alongside other athletes from Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago from July 22 and August 2, 2026, which helped them sharpen their skills before the competition.
