Ashma McDougall has taken the Oath of Allegiance as Roseau North Parliamentary Representative, formally beginning her service in Dominica’s Parliament.
Dominica: Ashma McDougall has officially been sworn in as the Roseau North Parliamentary Representative, formally beginning her tenure in the Constituency. The new Representative was sworn in during the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eleventh Parliament which took place at the House of Assembly on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
In her address in Parliament, Ashma McDougall expressed gratitude to everyone who was involved in the campaign period and once again thanked the citizens of Roseau North for placing their confidence in her and electing her as their Representative. She shared that she is looking forward to delivering for the people of Roseau North.
"I am excited for the journey ahead and I look forward to contributing greatly to this Honourable House," McDougall stated.
She noted that work has already begun through meetings with community groups, improvement committees and other residents, emphasising the need for unity and collaboration in carrying out the constituency’s mandate.
We recognise that with this heavy mandate that has been delivered, it will not only take the Parliamentary Representative or the Dominica Labour Party, but it will take multiple individuals across the entire Constituency, from different backgrounds and different political colours, she shared.
During his address, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit said that the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) was fortunate to attract candidates of Ashma McDougall's calibre to contest elections across Dominica.
When you look at the quality of the candidate, her articulation, her vision for Roseau North and her view of how she can play a part, not only in advancing the wealth and well-being of the Roseau North Constituency, but how she can play a part from a national standpoint. And I believe that the country is fortunate, and I just said the Labour Party is itself fortunate, to be in a position to be able to recruit the calibre of candidates in the person of Ashma McDougall to contest across the country, stated the Prime Minister.
Skerrit shared that the Labour Party had been receiving requests from several people, including young people, interested in contesting the position. However, he said the Party was looking for someone who understands the global realities and challenges facing the world today as well as the actions needed to address these challenges. He described Ashma as a “steady hand” during difficult times.
Following his statement in Parliament, Skerrit took to Facebook to publicly congratulate the Roseau North Representative as she begins serving the community.
