DOWASCO says the new Calibishie water supply system is expected to become operational by October 2026, with full project completion by December.
Dominica: The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO) has shared a major update on the Calibishie water project, announcing that the new water supply system is expected to become operational by October 2026, with the full project set to be fully completed by December 31, 2026.
This announcement was made by DOWASCO’s General Manager, Bernard Ettinoffe, during a town hall meeting in Calibishie earlier last week. Speaking at the meeting, the General Manager shared that the Government of Dominica has secured an EC$36.3 million funding package for the new water supply systems for Calibishie , Grandfond, Morne Jaune, Rivier Cyrique and the West Coast.
Bernard Ettinoffe stated that DOWASCO has consulted with the main contractor who will return to implement the remaining works, with the project targeted for completion by October 2026. Ettinoffe noted that the citizens in the community will also start benefiting from the project in October.
We expect that you will begin to benefit from a full project by the end of October of this year. We have consulted with our main contractor on the project and we are in the process, maybe tomorrow of signing an agreement that that contractor will return to the project and implement all the remaining aspects of the project that should be completed by October 2026. And the people will begin to benefit from the full effect of that project, shared General Manager Ettinoffe.
He further explained that the new water system in Calibishie had experienced some few challenges along the way, but the project is now on track to be fully completed by the end of the year, including restoring the roads and other areas affected by the project.
And so, there were some deficiencies we had to correct and to ensure that when the system is complete, people will be happy, people will be satisfied. We know you have had a lot of patience, but we are in the final stages at this point. We expect that this project will be fully completed by the 31st of December 2026. Notwithstanding that, that is the date for the roads and everything to be fully reinstated, stated Ettinoffe.
