Dominica Athletics Association has opened its 2026 Road Race Series in Portsmouth, with athletes competing across age groups and distances from 1K to 5K.
Dominica: The Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) has officially concluded the first of the three races scheduled for the 2026 DAA Inc. Road Race Series. Race 1 was held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with athletes racing along the Portsmouth route to the finish line at TanTan Portsmouth, outside Roots Rock Bar and Grill.
During the first race, boys and girls competed across several age categories, with the U7, U9 and U11 athletes taking part in the 1K, U13 and U15 competitors tackling the 2K, and the U17 athletes participating in the 3K. Moreover, the Open and Masters divisions competed over the 5K distance.
Racers began the road race at different locations according to their respective race distances. Those competing in the 5k began their race at Bullseye Pharmacy, while the 3K participants started near the Indian River Bridge. The 2K runners set off from Lagon Portsmouth, near Peter’s BBQ (Hot Plate), and the 1K competitors started near the Purple Turtle Beach roundabout, on the way to the Intercontinental Hotel.
The Domnica Athletics Association has shared highlights of the race as well as the award ceremony on Facebook. It has extended its gratitude to all participants, especially the youngest athletes, and congratulated the athletes who finished at the top.
"Well done to our athletes, coaches, parents, clubs and officials who made Race 1 a success. Special recognition to our youngest runners for their courage and effort. Every finisher is a winner, and we're proud of the growth we're seeing across the clubs. Keep training, stay positive and we'll see you at Race 2!" shared the Association.
The Athletics Association has also extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force for their support during the race. A special mention was given to Portsmouth's Station officers, Officer Shillingford and Officer Joseph-Boyd.
