DABA launches a two-day referee clinic led by FIBA to improve basketball officiating, enhance referee skills, and strengthen the sport in Dominica.
Dominica: The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) has launched a two-day Referee Clinic to elevate the standard of officiating in Dominica. The Referee Clinic commenced on Friday, May 8, 2026, and has gathered both local and aspiring officials as well as other basketball stakeholders for intensive training sessions.
This initiative, funded by the Dominica Olympic Committee, is part of DABA’s broader strategy to improve the quality and consistency of basketball officiating across all divisions and for all competitions in Dominica.
This two-day clinic is currently ongoing and is being held at the Dominica Olympic Committee Conference Room in Bath Estate. The Basketball Association has shared that the clinic is specifically focusing on four main agendas, with the sessions being led by FIBA Instructor Nick Nicholas.
The referees are participating in training sessions for rules interpretation, game management, mechanics, and overall referee development.
According to the Basketball Association, this intensive training will greatly impact the officiating standards in the country and bolster the overall development of the sport in Dominica.
DABA has shared highlights of the ongoing sessions on its official Facebook page where it has thanked the Olympic Committee for its support for this initiative.
In its post, the Association has defined the training clinic as a “major step in developing and strengthening basketball officiating in Dominica.”
Moreover, the participants have been encouraged to take full advantage of this training, with DABA reaffirming its commitment to supporting educational and capacity building initiatives which will benefit the sport as a whole.
Citizens have taken to the comment section to commend the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association for organising this clinic, stating that it will help to advance the quality of the sport.
A user under James David wrote, “Glad to see such initiatives in our sports sector. Officiating plays such a major role in the game, and this training will keep the referees mentally and physically prepared for the games, especially the National Basketball Season.”
