DAT Launches Teachers’ Week 2026 Activities | Dominica News

The Dominica Association of Teachers has launched Teachers’ Week 2026, featuring wellness, appreciation and recognition activities from September 26 to October

Dominica: The Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT) has officially launched its 2026 Teacher's Week schedule set to run from September 26 to October 3, 2026, with Dominica planning to observe Teacher's Day on Friday, October 2, 2026. This year, the teacher's week celebrations are under the theme, “Teachers: The Foundation of National Development – Value Us.”

Activities for the week commenced over the weekend (September 26 and 27), with special prayers for teachers at places of worship throughout the island.

The following day, September 28, the association brought “DAT in the Street” to Portsmouth and surrounding communities, where members of the public shared stories about the teachers who have influenced their lives.

On Tuesday, September 29, the DAT continued its celebrations by turning to social media to highlight teachers from across Dominica.

According to the schedule released by the DAT Public Relations Officer Juanita Carbon, Wednesday, September 30 will focus teachers’ health and well-being through “Wellness Wednesday,” offering health screenings, wellness checks and “Relax and Unwind” activities in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

Moreover, the day will conclude with karaoke events at The Launch in Picard and Cozy Corner at The Realm.

Thursday, October 1, will mark Teachers’ Appreciation Day, along with recreational activities such as Sip and Paint, Sip and Dip, and a bonfire night, while October 2 will feature a Thanksgiving and Recognition Service in Newtown, followed by the “Sunset Bliss” cocktail celebration at Plantation House in Castle Comfort, honouring teachers for their contributions to national development.

The week will conclude on World Teachers’ Day, Monday, October 5, where the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, will deliver a radio address.

As the celebrations continue, the DAT National Executive and Youth Arm has extended warm wishes to teachers across Dominica and invited the public to join in the various activities planned.
