DFA Launches First U16 Girls' Development League | Dominica News

The Dominica Football Association will launch its first U16 Girls' Development League on July 25 to expand youth football opportunities for girls.

Dominica: The Dominica Football Association (DFA) has announced that it will launch its first ever Under -16 Girls' Development League as it continues in its greater efforts to strengthen youth football development across Dominica and expand opportunities for young girls in football.

The Dominica Football Association made this announcement earlier last week, sharing that the festival will commence on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with a festival kicking off the official start to the league. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. To 01:00 p.m., taking place at the DFA Technical Centre in Stockfarm.

First of its kind, the U-16 league is open to girls 13 to 16 years old, specifically those born between 2010 and 2013. With it, the DFA aims to provide young female footballers with the opportunity to develop their skills, showcase their talent, and become part of the country's growing youth football program.

Taking to Facebook, the Football Association has shared that it pleased to announce the launch of the girls’ development league, underscoring its importance in expanding opportunities for girls interested in the sport.

“The Dominica Football Association is pleased to announce the upcoming U16 GIRLS' Development League. This is an initiative designed to provide young female footballers across Dominica with competitive playing opportunities,” stated the DFA.

A few citizens have taken to the comment section, expressing their excitement for the start of the league and stating that it a timely initiative that will create a structured pathway for the girls to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.

A few citizens have also offered suggestions for the Association to expand the league to include girls ages from 11 to 16 instead of 13 to 16.
