Ashma McDougall of the Dominica Labour Party won the Roseau North by-election with 1,506 votes, defeating UWP candidate Daniel Lugay.
Dominica: The Dominica Electoral Office has announced the preliminary results for the Roseau North by-election held on Monday, September 7, 2026, with the Dominica Labour Party's candidate, Ashma C. McDougall, emerging victorious with a lead of 1,506 votes across N01 and N10 polling districts.
The Roseau North by-election was contested by three candidates, including Ashma McDougall, Daniel Andrew Lugay representing the United Workers Party and Sherman "Donty" Boston, an independent candidate.
According to the shared preliminary figures, economist McDougall is ahead of Daniel Andrew Lugay of the United Workers Party by 523 votes and independent candidate Sherman Boston by 1,456. Lugay has received 983 ballots while Boston is third with 50 votes.
The figures show that the number of registered electors in the polling districts was 7,489, while a total of 2,595 ballots were cast. Of those ballots, 15 were recorded as spoilt ballots and 41 ballots were rejected.

For a first-time parliamentary candidate, Ashma C. McDougall’s 1,506 votes represent a strong electoral debut, with the result suggesting that she was able to connect with a significant portion of Roseau North voters and establish herself as a formidable political presence.
During her campaign, the DLP candidate had highlighted various community development issues which she aims to address upon securing a seat as the Parliamentary Representative, including improving footpaths and access routes, sanitation, drainage and strengthening community facilities.
On polling day, the Electoral Office kept the nation updated by sharing live results of the ongoing elections across different polling stations. As the results were being shared, Ashma McDougall was seen taking to Facebook to extend her gratitude to the citizens of Roseau North for placing their confidence in her and the DLP.
