Dominica appointed more than 200 teachers in the last academic year as the Education Ministry continues investing in educators and school development.

Dominica: The Ministry of Education, HR Planning, Vocational Training & Nat'l Excellence has reported that more than 200 teachers in Dominica were appointed during the last academic year, reaffirming its continued commitment to investing in the teachers and building a strong and resilient education sector.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Robert Guiste, made this announcement at the opening ceremony of the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT) Annual Summer Institute which is currently taking place in Dominica at the Convent High School auditorium.

“Over the last academic year, or at least the last fiscal year, we have made over 200 appointments, and this will continue. We have not stopped and we will not stop until every deserving teacher has gotten appointed in the positions,” announced the Permanent Secretary.

In his address to the teachers, Permanent Secretary Robert Guiste went on to express that the Government is committed to supporting them and their profession, noting that they play a vital role in shaping the nation’s future.

“Teachers, the Ministry of Education remains fully committed to supporting your professional and personal well-being. We recognise that teaching is a demanding profession requiring dedication, resilience, compassion and continuous adaptation,” stated Robert Guiste, further adding, “Please be assured that this Government and the Ministry have always looked out for the welfare of teachers and will continue to do so.”

Guiste reiterated the Education Ministry’s commitment, pledging that they will keep up with their efforts to enhance teachers' working conditions and to create opportunities for growth and safety.

Additionally, the Permanent Secretary also encouraged the educators to embrace Artificial Intelligence, noting that it plays an important role in today’s world and in the future.

“And I want us as teachers to focus on AI. AI should be our friend. Teachers, no matter what you do, know how to use AI and let your children know how to use AI. Do not let children hate AI.”

He encouraged them to well-utilize the OECS Learning Hub under the OECS Pearl project to enhance their professional development.
