Dominica debuts in ANOCES U23 3x3 Basketball Championship | Dominica News

Four Dominican players represent Dominica at the first ANOCES U23 3x3 Championship in the BVI, with coach and officials supporting the historic debut.

Dominica: Four basketball players in Dominica have been chosen to represent the country at the inaugural ANOCES U- 23 3x3 Championship in the British Virgin Islands.  The Dominica National U23 3x3 Basketball Team has already arrived in the island and are currently preparing themselves for the intense competition was commenced on Saturday, May 16, 2026.  

Representing Dominica are Karim Daniel and Yawani Regis from PSC Falcons, Andel Olivacee from the 767 Sports club and Rene Williams of the BAA Sharks. The team is also accompanied by Head Coach Yannick Regis and Referee Yehudi John.  

Although the ANOCES U- 23 3x3 Championship has started on Saturday May 16, 2026, and continue to Sunday, May 17, 2026, day one of the championship began shortly after arrival on Friday, May 15, commencing with a training session for all referees. 

This will be Dominica’s first time participating in the tournament, and according to the Head Coach of the Dominican team, the selected players were the top among the 12 players that underwent the trials.  

Coach Regis has expressed confidence in the team, stating that they have been training hard and that he is pleased with the players, noting that the mix of talents will help them advance to the semi-finals.  

“We have a mix of height, talent, skill and shooting. I think in 3x3 you need a lot of both, and I definitely believe that the team we have is equipped to face anybody really in this tournament. I think in that group we can really do some damage and advance to the semi-finals,” stated Coach Regis.  

The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) announced of the team’s departure on Facebook, wishing the players, coach and official success as they take part in this historic event.  

The Basketball Association has also expressed gratitude to the Dominica Olympic Committee for their support, stating, “DABA proudly thanks the Dominica Olympic Committee for fully funding the team’s participation and supporting the development of Dominican basketball.” 

The tournament is being hosted by the Association of National Olympic Committees of the OECS and will feature some of the best emerging talent from the region.
