Dominica farmers affected by April flooding received fertilizer, seedlings, and seeds to restore crops and strengthen food security efforts.
Dominica: The Government of Dominica is continuing its relief efforts to the affected communities following the trough system in late April. The Government has provided support to the impacted farmers in the East Agricultural Region, distributing essential fertilizer inputs to help farmers restore agricultural productivity.
The fertilizer inputs were handed out in bulk by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy on Monday, May 25, 2026, and will greatly aid in restoring the nutrients lost due to the flooding.
This direct relief is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to stabilize national food security as well as help the farmers “rehabilitate their farms and return to production in the shortest possible time.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture was seen supplying the farmers with crop seedling of different vegetables including, cabbage, lettuce, bell peppers, pak choi, tomatoes, cauliflower and celery. Moreover, farmers had also received cucumber, pumpkin, watermelon, okra and string bean seeds to further compliment the crop mix.
The Agriculture Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the farmers, taking to Facebook, the Ministry wrote, “This timely support will assist farmers in restoring crop production, strengthening resilience, and safeguarding livelihoods as recovery efforts continue across the region. Together, we are rebuilding stronger and supporting food security for our communities.”
The farmers have expressed their appreciation to the Government of Dominica for its assistance, acknowledging that the ongoing initiative are playing a major role in accelerating the recovery.
Citizens have also taken to the Ministry’s comment section to praise the Government for this effort, describing the move as “real action on the ground.”
