Dominica finishes 6th at Revived ANOECS Championships | Dominica News

Dominica finished sixth with 76 points and four medals, including two golds won by twin brothers Khaarim and Khumaar John-Baptiste.

Dominica: The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) has shared Dominica’s results for the ANOECS Track & Field Championships which took place in St. Kitts and Nevis, revealing that Dominica finished in 6th place overall, with a total of 76 points. Dominica won 4 medals with twin brothers Khaarim and Khumaar John-Baptiste demonstrating outstanding performances in the men’s high jump and securing joint gold medals for the country.

The ANOECS Track & Field Championships made its return during the weekend, from July 4 to 5, 2026, after a nine-year hiatus and saw participation from 9 countries in the region including, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

At the end of day one, the Dominican athletes had secured a total of 49 points and the country was ranked 5th, with the athletes winning 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

In the women’s 800m, Akeisha Luke finished second with a time of 2:24.63, while in the men’s triple jump, Khumaar John-Baptiste won the bronze medal with a distance of 14.25m.

On the final day, Khaarim and Khumaar John-Baptiste who participated in the men’s high jump, both earned Dominica its first two gold medals of the tournament, with jumps of 1.85m for both athletes. This joint first place finish brought the total medal tally to 4.

The Dominica Olympic Committee and the Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) have taken to Facebook to congratulate the eight athletes for their dedication and for representing the country with excellence.

They noted that although Dominica has not secured the overall first place, many athletes have recorded their personal best performances during this competition, which will help strengthen their preparation for future regional and international events.

The final standings for the tournament revealed that St. Kitts and Nevis led the chart with a total of 180 points, making them the winners of the 2026 ANOECES Athletics Championships. Antigua and Barbuda came in second with 171 points, and with 130 points, British Virgin Islands took third place.
