Dominica finishes second at 2026 WISG | Dominica News

Dominica finished second at the 2026 Windward Islands School Games with 29 points, winning three championships and eight athletics medals.

Dominica: Team Dominica has delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Windward Islands School Games (WISG), claiming second place with a combination of three championship titles and total of 29 points overall.

Held in St. Lucia, the Windward Islands School Games took place from July 25 to August 1, 2026, and included athletes from four islands in the region, including Dominica, Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia. The Nature Island was represented by 62 athletes who competed across seven disciplines—Male Basketball, Female Basketball, Netball, Football, Male Volleyball, Female Volleyball, and Athletics.

Both the male and female Basketball teams emerged as champions, with the male team finishing in first place after recording two wins and one loss, while the female team went undefeated with three wins from three matches.

Dominica’s male Volleyball team also secured first place, winning the Volleyball Championship for the third year in a row. The team recorded two victories and one defeat.

With a total of 8 medals across different track and field events, the Athletics team earned a third-place finish led by Khaarim John-Baptiste only gold medal in the Boy’s Triple Jump with an impressive leap of 14.55 metres. Athlete Khaarim John-Baptiste was named the 2026 Windward Islands School Games Victor Ludorum (Winner of the Games), recognizing him as the overall highest individual point-scorer and top male athlete in track and field at the Games.

In addition to these achievements, Dominica was also recognised with other awards such as the Most Disciplined Team throughout the 2026 Games.

The Dominica Sports Division shared Team Dominica’s milestone on Facebook, congratulating the athletes for their passion and outstanding performances, noting that their teamwork points to a promising future of sports in the country.

In a post, the Sports Division wrote, Dominica’s second-place overall finish firmly underscores the nation’s status as a rising nation in regional sport and provides a powerful platform as the team looks ahead to future WISG editions and other regional competitions.

First place was taken by this year’s host, St. Lucia, who secured a total of 37 points throughout the games while Grenada fell in third place with 27 points overall. In 2027, the Windward Islands School Games will be taking place in Dominica.
