Ten climate-resilient fishing vessels were handed over to fishers under the EALCRP to strengthen livelihoods and boost fisheries resilience.
Dominica: The Government of Dominica has handed 10 climate resilient fishing vessels to the fishers in the St. Joseph Constituency as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Fishery Industry in the country as well as support and improve the livelihoods of the fisherfolk.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy project known as the Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP). With this project, the Government aims to modernize the local fishing fleet with safer and more durable equipment.
The handing over of the 10 boats took place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, where 10 beneficiaries from Layou, Massacre, Mahaut, San Sauveur, Potterville and Marigot, received the newly constructed boats.

The Parliamentary Representative of the St. Joseph Constituency, Darron Llyod, has thanked the Ministry for the Ministry for their commitment to the fisherfolk in Dominica, stating that the work it is doing is tremendous and will greatly impact their lives.
I think the Ministry of Agriculture is doing a stupendous job as it relates to improving the lives and livelihoods and improving the fisheries sector. So, I must um extend my gratitude and my respect to both Roland Royer (Minister for Agriculture) and Jullan Dofoe (Minister of State with responsibility for Fisheries and the Blue Economy) for the marvellous job that they are doing stated the Parliamentary Representative.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries have shared the importance of this initiative, stating that it “continues to strengthen livelihoods and support the sustainable development of the fisheries industry while building resilience against the impacts of climate change.”
So far, the Government has handed fishers with a total of 44 vessels out of the approved 54, with sizes ranging from 22x8, 22x6, and 20x4. In addition, 108 engines were also distributed as part of this project.
