Dominica holds National Schools’ Awards Ceremony | Dominica News

Dominica honoured students and schools at its National Schools’ Awards Ceremony, recognising academic progress, discipline and achievement.

Dominica: The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Planning, Ministry of Vocational Training and Excellence came together to exclusively organize the National School Awards Ceremony. The event was hosted at St. Alphonsus Parish Hall in the capital city of Roseau on October 26, 2026 and was an invite only affair.

The award ceremony was organized to honour and recognize the par excellence achievements secured by the students and the schools leading to bring a dynamic impact in the educational landscape of the nation in the last one year. The government decided to take this initiative for a nonconventional growth cycle which caters to important factors such as holistic approach to motivate students by rewarding the best performing cadets in the National Youth Rally.

The values and belief system of the Dominica Educational System and the Ministry of Education work on the central philosophy which rewards character building, innovation, cultural appreciation, community responsibility in addition to safe, sound and healthy learning environments molded in the blend of traditional approaches of learning.

The National Award Ceremony also focuses on appreciating and providing recognition for the dedication, hard work, responsibility, discipline and awareness in a combination with consistent efforts which teachers and students do relentlessly without breaks to ensure the best possible outcomes in the given situations.

The major, break through award baggers include the Award for Most Improved Secondary School at CSEC Examinations which rank the participants on the factors like discipline, growth achieved over the years and the average performances of schools over the last 5 or 7 years accumulated.

The National Awards Ceremony’s awards and its categories are influenced and deeply rooted in the beliefs of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit - a former teacher and Minister of Education himself. The values influencing the award categories and domains are the transformation of education as a “survival kit,” the new modern and dynamic shifts in the educational paradigm along with a “Dominica First” mentality to ensure that the country’s citizens feel safe, secured and valued in their domestic nation and actively country to their own nation’s growth and development instead of moving abroad.
