Dominica honours top athletes at 12th National Sports Awards, with Thea Lafond-Gadson and Addison James named top performers for 2025.
Dominica: The Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development hosted its Annual National Sports Awards on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to recognise the sportsmen and women in the country who have excelled in their fields as well as other individuals, institutions and organisations who have significantly contributed to the development and promotion of the sports sector in Dominica.
The award ceremony, under the theme "Passion, Resilience, Victory", was held at the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort and Spa and was attended by many, including different representatives for the Ministry of Sports and local athletic bodies, elite and youth athletes, and many more.
During this event, sportsmen and women were honoured and received various awards. Olympic Gold Medalist, Thea Lafond-Gadson, was awarded Sportswoman of the year 2025 while CARIFTA Gold Medalist, Addison James, received the award of Sportsman of the year 2025.

Moreover, the two athletes were also named as the female and male Athletics Track & Field MVPs. Other MVPs in their disciplines included, CCUL Dublanc FC midfielder, Briel Thomas (Football); Aldith Gasper and Earsinho Fontaine (Cricket); Kohath Baron (Cycling); Ayani Casimir and Larry Thomas (Chess); Donald Langford (Bridge); Ali Daniel Shillingford (Boxing); and Galeine Gordon-Seraphine and Shamar Felicite (Basketball).
The Sports Award also honoured Raymond Casimir as the Coach of the year and Delroy Watt of Castle Bruce Secondary School as the Physical Education/Sports Teacher of the Year.

Awards also went to the Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association, which was recognised as the Association of the year, the Salisbury Sports Committee who won the Sport Committee of the year, and the Aspirers Athletic Club as the Club of the year.
Following the award ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has extended his congratulatory messages to all athletes, clubs, association for the role they play in advancing sports in the country.
Taking to Facebook Prime Minister Skerrit shared picture highlight of the ceremony, writing, “Congratulations to our outstanding athletes, clubs, committees, sporting associations and all those recognized for their achievements and contributions to sports development in Dominica.”
