Dominica hosts VOSH Eye Care Mission Serving 1,000+ Patients | Dominica News

VOSH, Rotary Club, and Dominica Health Ministry provide free eye care and glasses to over 1,000 citizens during a four-day mission.

Dominica: The 31st mission of the US-based VOSH (Voluntary Optometric Services to Humanity) Eye Care programme is currently underway in Dominica with the aim of providing services to more than 1,000 clients in a week.  

The mission began on Monday, May 11, 2026, and will last for a total of four days, concluding on Thursday, May 14, 2026. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Dominica, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, and VOSH International.  

Together the three stakeholders aim to improve eyecare, health and vision for the citizens of Dominica. With the VOSH medical team being led by Dr. Dan Rubel, together with doctors and students alike, the dedicated of medical professionals will attend to over 1,000 patients in the country.  

According to the President of the Rotary Club, Dr. Jermaine Jean-Pierre, after receiving their eye examinations, patients in need will be provided with free prescription glasses as part of the club’s efforts to make eyecare more accessible in Dominica.  

“As part of the programme free prescription glasses will be dispensed to persons in need helping to improve quality of life and access to proper vision care for many individuals,” stated the President of the Rotary Club.  

Moreover, Dr. Jermaine Jean-Pierre has shared that the clinics will be held in four different locations throughout the four days. On May 11, service was being provided at Portsmouth Hospital, on May 12 at St. Joseph Health Centre and on May 13th at Goodwill Parish. The clinic will conclude on May 14 which will be held Goodwill Parish Hall.  

The President has extended her sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health for its support and the doctors and volunteers who will play a part in ensuring the citizens are well-served.
