The 2026 national cycling season got underway in Dominica last weekend, with cyclists taking the challenge. This year, the cycling season opened with a road race from Ma Boyd’s Bar on the Woodbridge Bay Port to Canefield, giving the racers a chance to get a preview of what lies ahead.
The opening race took place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, starting from 9 a.m. and featured eight laps for road bikes, three laps for mountain bikes and one lap for BMX riders. The race was broadcast live on DBS Radio, where fans got to watch the cyclists as they raced along the course.
During an interview with the media, the President of the Dominica Cycling Association, Ronald Charles, shared that he is looking forward to the 2026 cycling season, stating that the season opener, just like the previous ones, was exciting as the racers were “well pumped to have a wonderful race.”
The cyclists expressed their excitement for the season to begin, including national cyclist Kohath Baron, who is a dominant force in Dominican cycling. In the previous season, Baron had secured multiple wins, including the DCA National Cycle Race in June of 2025.
Confident with his performance, Kohath Baron shared that he is looking forward to once again giving his all with hopes of securing more wins for himself this season.
Before the race began, President Charles had emphasised the importance of safety, urging all motorists who would be using the route to be attentive on the road.
“And we just want to again send an important message to all motorists traversing from 9 am to Ma Boyd’s Bar on Sunday, it is important that you pay due attention,” he stressed.
