Dominica marked Financial Information Month with a Roseau Valley workshop teaching students budgeting, saving, spending and responsible money management.
Financial Information Month(FIM) Festival was celebrated in Dominica hosted by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and regional partners since 2002 with the aim of educating and promoting financial literacy in Dominica.
Executed throughout October as a regional campaign across the whole country, this year’s theme is “The Big Push: Mastering Money in a Changing World”. The festival was held in Roseau Valley on October 12,2026. The Kid’s Financial Workshop activity hosted students from Morne Prosper School, Trafalgar School and Wotten Waven Primary School to focus on the foundation of finance applied in everyday life.
Intended to make the people of Dominica understand and realise the power of money, the festival serves as a dedicated corporate public education project with an objective to focus on improving financial literacy and sharp financial practices thereby fostering the culture of sustainable economic growth for Dominica.
The core pillars of 2026 FIM Campaign include Wealth Optimization- focusing on strategic investing, insurance as an investment and minimizing the tax and cost efficiency. Another core pillar is Active Account Management which includes proactive budgeting, credit score and debt optimization along with maximization of digital tools.
A major pillar forming the core of the campaign is Security & Asset Protection, which encompasses cybersecurity defense, asset insulation and risk mitigation to ensure a safety net for the investors and their funds.
Acting as a managerial vacuum for wealth accumulation is Institutional Alliances which involves Public-Private Cooperation, Leveraging of Professional Terms and Cross-Sector Financial Literacy. All of these factors, when clubbed together, act as an impeccable force driving multi-faceted growth of Dominica.
For kids, the pillars are revised on the basis of a different psychology. While creating strong financially disciplined habits among adults is a need, for kids the major focus is on understanding the difference between “Needs versus Wants” and what needs to be prioritised when, where and why.
An important habit taught to kids in the workshop was the “Jar” Budgeting method. Categorised as Save, Spend and Give a child is made to understand that they need to save, spend and give every dollar which they receive. This makes them understand that every dollar before spending gets split, hence it is important to manage the money they receive irrespective of amount.
The workshop also focused on educating kids about the fact that money is earned by doing hard work using one’s time, skills , efforts and value delivered and it isn't just delivered whenever demanded or ordered.
