Dominica Pledges US$500,000 for Venezuela Earthquake Relief | Dominica News

Dominica has approved an initial US$500,000 donation to support Venezuela's earthquake recovery, reaffirming regional solidarity and cooperation.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that the Government of Dominica has approved an initial support of US $500,000 to aid in Venezuela’s earthquake relief efforts, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to regional cooperation and solidarity.

Prime Minister Skerrit made this announcement on Thursday, July 2, 2026, during his monthly, national press conference with members of the media where he provided updates on several matters of national importance to the citizens of Dominica and engaged in a q & a session with the media.

Skerrit began the live conference by first extending his condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, following the tragic twin earthquakes that struck the country last week Wednesday, June 24, 2026. These massive earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, had greatly impacted Caracas and northern Venezuela, resulting in many being injured, losing their homes, livelihoods and lives.

Before I proceed, I wish, once again, to express the sympathy and solidarity of the Government and people of Dominica to the Government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, following the devastating earthquakes that resulted in loss of life, injuries and widespread destruction, stated Prime Minister Skerrit.

According to the information provided by media houses, to date, more than 2,200 have been pronounced dead, over 11,000 injured and tens of thousands are still unaccounted for. Emergency crews are reportedly still performing rescuing operations and damage assessments as the Venezuelan Government mobilised resources to assist the affected communities.

Dr. Skerrit noted, “There is no doubt this task is a huge one for the Government and people of Venezuela.”

He then announced that Dominica will stand with Venezuela during this difficult time, stating that an initial donation of US $500,000 has been approved by the Government to help aid in recovery efforts.

The National Leader went on to speak of the long-standing Dominica-Venezuela relationship, sharing that Venezuela has remained a “valued friend and neighbour” of Dominica for many years. He noted that tragic events are a reminder of the need for compassion and unity, emphasising the importance of standing together as neighbouring countries when responding to natural disasters.
