Dominica Police Officers Complete Advanced Drill Training | Dominica News

Two Dominica police officers complete 7-week All Arms Advanced Drill course in Barbados, gaining skills in ceremonial planning, leadership, and teamwork.

Dominica: Two police officers in the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force have successfully completed All Arms Advanced Drill and Ceremonial Drill Instructors Course hoisted by the Barbados Police Force from March 16 to April 30, 2026. Sergeant Sherwin Mitchel and Acting Corporal Tyron Sandy have graduated after undergoing intense training for a duration of seven weeks, with Sergeant Mtichel receiving a special recognition.  

The seven-week training programme was conducted at the Pelican Coast Guard Base in Barbados and included a total of 43 participants from the military, law enforcement, and uniformed organizations form across the region.  

According to the Barbados Police Force, the police officers engaged in structured activities designed to build discipline, skills, and leadership qualities in the participants. The officers were trained in drill and instructional techniques and gained experience in ceremonial planning, including state funerals, Guards of Honour, and parades. 

The training also included practical exercises such as a simulated military funeral and wreath-laying ceremony and route marches across historic Bridgetown, which helped to strengthen their endurance and teamwork 

“This intensive training program focused on developing excellence in drill instruction, ceremonial planning, discipline, and leadership preparing participants to confidently execute national and military ceremonies with precision and professionalism,” shared the Barbados Police Force.   

It further added that the officers also got the opportunity to experience the Barbadian culture as they got to tour the island and experience culture day in the country. A regimental dinner was also organised to “strengthen bonds and regional unity.” 

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has extended its congratulatory wishes to Sergeant Sherwin Mitchel and Acting Corporal Tyron Sandy, praising them for their dedication, discipline and commitment to advancing their skills and knowledge to better serve their country.  

The Force also gave a special mention to Sergeant Sherwin Mitchel for obtaining prestigious Distinguished Drill Instructors Medal and for being recommended to serve as a Senior Drill Instructor in Barbados.  

“Your commitment to excellence, professionalism, and continuous development continues to elevate the standards of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and inspire pride across the nation,” expressed the Force.
