Dominica ranked the No. 1 island in the Caribbean and No. 9 worldwide in the 2026 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, earning a score of 91.87.
Dominica: The Nature Island continues to shine on the global stage as it was recognised as the Caribbean’s top island destination in the 2026 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. In addition to topping the region, Dominica also claimed a place among the world’s top 10 island destinations and was named the No. 9 Best Island in the World, cementing itself as a premier tourism attraction on the global stage.
According to Travel + Leisure, more than 661,000 votes were cast on city and island escapes, safari outfitters, airlines, and hotels around the world, with Dominica securing score of 91.87. Voters highlighted Dominica’s outdoor adventures such as hiking, snorkelling, scuba diving, and whale watching, as what set the island apart.
“Dominica stands out among other Caribbean islands because of its dedication to preserving its diverse offering of largely unspoiled, natural outdoor experiences,” read the article.
It also explained, “The key value of visiting this tropical paradise is the lush greenery, which includes a rich array of vegetation touching all edges of the island, plus volcanoes, black sand, hot springs, and waterfalls throughout.”
The Discover Dominica Authority has shared this significant achievement on Facebook, where it thanked the voters for their love, support and confidence in Dominica, noting that the votes are a testament of the unforgettable experiences that make the island special. The Authority has also extended its gratitude to the travellers who continue to choose to visit Dominica and experience what it has to offer.

“This win belongs to every Dominican who shares the warmth of our island with the world. Thank you to everyone who voted, and to everyone who continues to choose Dominica,” wrote the Authority.
The Ministry of Tourism has also taken to Facebook to post of this milestone, sharing that the award is a reflection of the collective efforts, hard work, and commitment undertaken to build an authentic and sustainable destination.
On its post, the Ministry of Tourism shared, “To everyone who visited, voted, shared and believed in the Nature Island — 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮! This recognition celebrates what we continue to build: a destination rooted in nature, culture, wellness, adventure and authentic experiences.”
