Dominica receives 20 computers from PAHO to strengthen disease surveillance, improve data management, and support digital transformation in healthcare systems.
Dominica: The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services has shared that it has received a donation of 20 computer units, including 15 laptops and 5 desktop computers, from the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) which will help strengthen primary health care services across the country by supporting disease surveillance and strengthening data management.
According to the Ministry of Health, this donation was made possible through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation. It also supports the Ministry’s efforts to shift Dominica’s healthcare network from paper based to efficient digital platforms through its upcoming rollout of the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
The 20 units were officially handed over to Dr. Kyra Paul, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the official handover ceremony. According to the Permanent Secretary, the computers will be distributed to different local health centres in Dominica where health data is generated and reported.

Upon receiving the equipment, Dr. Kyra Paul, extended her gratitude to PAHO for its continued partnership and support. She stressed the importance of the donations, noting that timely and accurate data plays a major role in guiding the Ministry in its decision making.
We are very grateful for the continued support of PAHO. Real-time data and reporting on disease monitoring and outbreaks is critical to ensure that the Ministry responds in a timely manner and to support policy and operational decisions, stated Dr. Kyra Paul.
During her address, PAHO’s Country Programme Specialist, Nicole Slack-Liburd, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to Dominica, sharing that it will continue working closely with the Ministry to strengthen primary health care systems across the island.
Taking to Facebook, the Ministry of Health shared a few highlights of the handing over ceremony and spoke of PAHO’s support, whilst also mentioning the capacity building training initiatives in data analysis and information management. The Ministry shared that these investments complement each other and play a major role in strengthening Dominica’s healthcare delivery.
