Dominica plans to designate Marigot Fisheries as an official port, boosting local economy and creating opportunities for businesses and visitors.
Dominica: The Government of Dominica has announced that it has advanced plans to designate the Marigot Fisheries Complex as an official port of entry, a strategy said to boost economic activity in Marigot and the surrounding communities. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with different stakeholders in Marigot on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to discuss this transformative plan.
The Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the local committee, the Member of Parliament and the Village Council in Marigot, where he engaged in key discussions, with the aim of cooperating with them to achieve this initiative.
According to the Minister, the Government of Dominica will continue having discussions with the stakeholders as the initiative continues to advance to align with both the community and national developmental goals.
In his address the Prime Minister spoke of the fisheries complex’s importance stating that it has the “potential to improve access for visitors and vessels, support economic activity in the Northeast and beyond, and create new opportunities for local businesses and service providers.”
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit had also spoken of this project and its importance during his press conference with members of the media earlier that Wednesday.

He stated, “We all have a view that this official port of entry in Marigot will be a catalyst for increased economic activity, not only for Marigot, but all communities in the general area, going all the way back from Kanibishi all the way to Petit Soufrière. This is going to be a real positive impact.”
Skerrit posted about his engagement with the stakeholders on Facebook, describing the conversations as productive and impactful.
