Dominica to host OECS sustainability meeting | Dominica News

OECS ministers and regional partners will meet in Dominica to discuss climate resilience, sustainable energy and environmental protection.

Dominica: The Government of Dominica has partnered with the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to host the 13th Council of Ministers: Environmental Sustainability Meeting (COM:ES 13) from Wednesday, May 27 to Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Goodwill Parish Hall in Dominica.

The meeting will bring Ministers from the region as well as regional and international partners to the Commonwealth of Dominica, where they will engage in key discussions focused on different ways to strengthen the countries’ responses and coordination to climate threats. The meeting will also be attended by different technical agencies, researchers, and environmental practitioners.

The OECS has informed the countries that this year’s meeting will be under the theme: “The OECS Collective Resolve: Innovative Pathways in a High-Risk Global Landscape,” with the areas of discussion centring on ocean governance and fisheries, pollution and waste management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land and water management to promote environmental protection and resource sustainability.

Moreover, Ministers will also address climate and disaster resilience, along with the advancement of sustainable energy solutions, with the aim of supporting long-term ecological balance and global sustainable development.

Alongside this meeting the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States has also planned an Environmental Sustainability Exhibition, which will be open to the general public during those two days (May 27 and 28) and will be free of charge for all wishing to attend.

The exhibition will take place at the Goodwill Parish Hall in Roseau, Dominica and will showcase “innovative climate solutions, renewable energy initiatives, mangrove restoration efforts, sargassum management strategies, and other regional sustainability programmes,” according to the OECS.

The Organisation has also informed that the participants are to expect virtual reality experiences which will highlight different environmental projects or programmes in OECS, as well as other interactive displays and educational exhibits during the exhibition.
