Dominica’s Health Ministry will host a Youth Symposium and Adolescent Health Clinic on August 13 to promote youth health and wellness.
Dominica: The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services has announced that the Primary Health Care teams in the St. Joseph Health District and the Grand Bay Health District have planned to host adolescent-focused events aimed at promoting youth health, wellness, and empowerment in their respective districts.
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the health care team in St. Joseph will conduct a Youth Symposium at the Layou Resource Center, targeting adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 as well as parents and guardians. This Symposium, under the theme, "Empowering Today’s Youth for a Brighter Tomorrow" will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, featuring health education and personal development sessions, motivational discussions, games and refreshments.
Moreover, on the same day, the Grand Bay health care team has organised an Adolescent Health Clinic at the Grand Bay Health Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participants will have access to free medical screenings and services such as height and weight measurements, body mass index (BMI) checks, blood pressure and Random Blood Sugar (RBS) monitoring, and other basic health assessments.
The initiative is designed to help adolescent better understand and monitor their health, with those under 18 years mandated to provide parental consent for the clinical screenings.
The Ministry of Health shared that it remains committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of the youth in the country through initiatives that empower them to access the information, services and support needed to make healthy choices.
These activities reflect the Ministry of Health's ongoing commitment to investing in our young people, not only by treating illness, but by promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging positive choices, and creating safe spaces where youth can ask questions, learn and thrive, shared the Ministry of Health.
