Dominica to invest EC$566.9M in capital projects | Dominica News

Dominica will invest EC$566.9 million in capital projects in 2026/2027, funded through local resources, loans and grants to support national development.

Dominica: The Government of Dominica has announced that it will invest a total sum of $566.9 million in the country’s capital projects for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, as part of its continued efforts to promote Dominica’s sustainable growth and development. The Government plans to finance this capital expenditure through a combination of EC$383.5 million in local resources, EC$65.8 million in loans and EC$117.6 million in grants.

This capital expenditure plan was announced by Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre, during his presentation of the 2026/2027 National Budget in Parliament on August 4, 2026.

In his address, the Minister of Finance provided a detailed breakdown of the allocations for each Ministry and Department.

The Office of Prime Minister was allocated the largest share (EC$290 million) for the development of two major national projects while the Ministry of Public Works, Public Utilities and the Digital Economy will receive the second largest allocation (EC$70.7 million) to advance roads, water and sanitation and the digital services in Dominica.

Moreover, EC$57.1 million has been designated to the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment; and EC$51.7 million to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy.

The Minister of Finance spoke of the wide range of benefits the investments will bring to Dominicans, including improving the quality of life, creating employment opportunities, and increasing household incomes.

This EC$566.9 million in investments are expected to enhance the lives and livelihood of Dominicans across the country. These investments will create short term and long-term jobs; increase family income and open new opportunities for businesses. They will strengthen food security, improve roads, water supply and make daily life more conducive for residents, stated the Minister.

He added that the capital expenditure will also enhance Dominica’s appeal to visitors, boost exports, improve connectivity to the island and stimulate economic growth.

Other capital allocations include:

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy – EC$25.4 million

Ministry of Housing and Urban Development – EC$19.8 million

Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development – EC$13.6 million

Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security – EC$11.9 million

Ministry of Tourism – EC$6.3 million

Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence – EC$5.9 million

Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services – EC$5.1 million

Ministry of National Security and Legal Affairs – EC$2.5 million

Ministry of Labour, Public Service Reform, Social Partnership, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development – EC$2.4 million

Office of the President – EC$2.3 million

Electoral Office – EC$1.5 million

Cabinet Office – EC$0.5 million

Establishment, Personnel and Training Department – EC$0.2 million
