The Government of Dominica will stabilise the Aux Delices landslide area and upgrade the Delices-Petite Savanne road to improve access.
Dominica: The Government of Dominica has revealed plans to stabilise the landslide affected area of the Aux Delices Road and upgrade the Delices to Petite Savanne route as part of its greater efforts to improve road infrastructure and provide communities in the Southeast with reliable road access.
Earlier on September 19, 2026, the Ministry of Public Works, Public Utilities and the Digital Economy had shared an urgent public notice, alerting the public to exercise caution as a landslide had occurred along the Aux Delices Road during the night, rendering the road impassable for a duration of time. Efforts to clear the road were taken by the Ministry of Public Works who mobilised a heavy equipment operator to remove the debris and restore safe access at the earliest.
Following the reopening of the road, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, along with other member of Cabinet, paid a visit to area where he met with technical officers and residents to assess the conditions on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
During this visit, Prime Minister Skerrit shared that the Government will undertake further excavation and removal of unstable material at the landslide site, while seeking technical advice on the possible use of controlled blasting.
He further added that the Government is also exploring ways to widen the road through the affected area to improve safety while a more permanent solution is developed.
“It’s absolutely important that we firm up a course of action for this area and come back to you to discuss an approach to it. We do not want to spare any effort towards enhancing the security and the thoroughfare here,” stated the Prime Minister.
Moreover, Dr. Skerrit informed that the Petite Savanne–Delices alternative route will also receive an upgrade to provide the Southeast residents with better access. He noted that road surface improvements were among the main works to be undertaken along the bridge and added that approximately EC$1 million will be made available to advance this initiative.
The Prime Minister shared the visit on his official Facebook page, where he spoke of the important role the road plays for the residents and assured the citizens that the Government will take the necessary steps to enhance the road.
On his post, Skerrit wrote, "I know how much the road at Aux Delices means to the people who use it every day and we are taking steps to make it safer. We will stabilise the area, improve the alternative route between Delices and Petite Savanne, and address drainage and overgrown vegetation, as we work with residents and technical officers on a lasting solution."
