The Electoral Office says 19,007 voter confirmations and 1,489 new registrations have been approved as the October 15 deadline approaches.
Dominica: The Dominica Electoral Office has encouraged eligible voters to complete the voter confirmation process before the deadline arrives, announcing that the voter confirmation period has entered its final quarter with the deadline set to October 15, 2026.
This announcement was made by Chief Election Officer, Anthea Joseph, who reported that a total of 20,454 voters have applied for voter confirmation and that 19,007 of those applications have already approved. In addition, she confirmed that out of the 1,735 people who submitted their applications for new voter registration, 1,489 have been approved.
As we enter the final quarter of the voter confirmation period, the Electoral Office is reminding all eligible electors that time is running out to get confirmed, stated Chief Officer Anthea Joseph.
In the released audio statement, Josseph reminded the voters that failure to get oneself confirmed before the October 15 deadline will lead to complete removal of one’s name from the voters list. This will hinder the voter from participating in village council elections or general elections until their eligibility to vote is restored as according to the law.
It is important to remember that if you are not confirmed by the end of the confirmation period, your name will not remain on the voters list. This means you will not be eligible to vote in village council elections or general elections until your status is restored under the law, reminded Joseph.
She informed the citizens that the voter confirmation process takes approximately 30 minutes and that there is an alternative process for those who do not possess a valid government-issued ID.
Instead of the IDs, the Electoral Office will accept an affidavit signed by either a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths, along with a passport-sized photograph and a birth certificate.
“Take about 30 minutes out of your day and secure your opportunity to exercise one of the most important democratic rights,” urged the Officer.
