Dominica’s 2026/27 budget will focus on social protection, economic growth, and job creation while addressing global economic challenges.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to people centred development, inclusivity and transparency as he announces that the 2026/2027 National Budget will place a strong emphasis on social protection, economic advancement and expanding opportunities for all.

Prime Minister Skerrit shared this during his official Press Conference on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as he was seen addressing issues of national importance with members of the media and the general public.

Dr. Skerrit informed that in the past week, the Government has been engaging with different citizens, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders across the country. These engagements were to facilitate in the preparations of the upcoming 2026/2027 National Budget, ensuring that the Government is prioritising the needs of the people.

These consultations remain an important part of our commitment to ensuring that the budget reflects the realities, aspirations, and priorities of the Dominican people, stated Dr. Skerrit.

The Minister explained that the budget preparations are happening at a time where the country and the world is facing a lot of economic uncertainty.

We're preparing this budget at a time when countries around the world continue to face significant economic uncertainty. The effects of global inflation, supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and climate related challenges continue to place pressures on households and governments alike, explained the Prime Minister.

He further added, “Dominica is not immune to these realities; however, we're approaching this budget with a clear understanding that our responsibility is to protect the most vulnerable, support economic growth, create opportunities for people, and at the same time maintain fiscal responsibility and stability.”

The National Leader concluded by reiterating the Government’s commitment to its people, stating that it will continue carrying out measures that help ease the cost-of-living burden on families and support job creation. He went on to highlight investing in healthcare, infrastructure, and education, expanding opportunities for the youth, and strengthening agriculture and food security, as the Government aims to balance ‘prudence with compassion’ in the new budget.
