Dominica's Finance Minister to Chair ECCB Monetary Council | Dominica News

Dr. Irving McIntyre assumes the ECCB Monetary Council chairmanship for 12 months, prioritising financial stability, food security and climate resilience.

Dominica: Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre will officially assume the Chairmanship of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Monetary Council today, July 9, 2026, during an official meeting with the region’s Finance Ministers at the Intercontinental Resort and spa in Portsmouth.

Dr. Irving McIntyre will serve as Chair of the Monetary Council for the next 12 months, succeeding Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne. His appointment follows an alphabetical rotation policy.

The incoming Chairman stated that Dominica taking over this Chairmanship comes at a critical time as the world is facing many issues that are also affecting the OECS. He noted that financial stability as well as food and energy security will remain a major priority for the Council.

It’s a critical time for Dominica to assume Chairmanship in the sense that there are many pertinent things and many situations occurring in the world and OECS is no exception. We have to prioritise a few things including our financial stability, our food and nutrition security, our energy security, and climate resilience, stated Dr. Irving McIntyre.

He added that he looks forward to serving and is ready to translate the challenge into an opportunity.

“I really look forward to this Chairmanship; I would like to see how I can be part of the changes taking place in the OECS and the Monetary Council,” added the Finance Minister.

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) took to Facebook to share of McIntyre’s appointment, underscoring its importance for the country and stating that it is a testament of the trust and confidence placed in Dominica’s leadership at the regional level.

On the shared post, the Labour Party stated, “The appointment of Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre as Chairman of the ECCB Monetary Council is a proud moment for every Dominican and another reminder that our country continues to produce leaders trusted to shape the future of the Eastern Caribbean.”

It added that his appointment is both a victory and an inspiration for the coming generation, expressing confidence in his abilities to lead with integrity and commitment to serving.

“We wish Dr. McIntyre every success as he assumes this important responsibility and are confident that he will continue to serve the region with distinction, integrity, and excellence,” shared the DLP.
