DOMLEC reports EC$1.99M profit, driven by sales growth and renewable energy, with hydroelectricity supplying nearly 30% of Dominica’s power in 2025.
Dominica: The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) has reported that it has seen a net profit of $1.99 million for the financial year. This was announced by DOMLEC’s General Manager, Dwayne Cenac, who stated that the positive performance was driven by growth in sales and the performance of renewable energy factors.
According to General Manager Dwayne Cenac, DOMLEC saw a marginal growth of 0.9 per cent, and although it was less that 1 per cent, the Manager shared that the Electricity Services is pleased that it is a growth that’s on the positive side.
The Manager reported a slight profit growth from the previous year, recording a 1.99 million dollars in profit. He noted that renewable energy played a major role in achieving this profit, highlighting hydroelectricity which generated almost 30 per cent of the energy used in the country.
Apart from the slight growth in sales, a lot of it had to do with the performance of our renewable energy in 2025—the performance of our hydro-electric station. We were able to generate up to 27.5 per cent of the energy used in Dominica in 2025 from our hydro and that means we were able to displace a lot of fuel and fuels costs which helped drive our profitability, announced the General Manager.
Dwayne Cenac went on to reiterate the significance of geothermal energy for the island, stating that it will greatly impact the cost of electricity for consumers.
We’re moving away from a system where prices were determined based on the volatility of fuel. Now you’re basing your energy rate or cost on something that is much more stable because it is capital investment and a long-term plan, explained Dwayne Cenac.
He further asserted, “Overall, we all have something to be proud of in the geothermal project, it’s a major accomplishment for Dominica and it will definitely bring benefits to DOMLEC’s customers, consumers and all throughout Dominica.”
