DOMLEC reports rise in claims after power outages | Dominica News

DOMLEC says recent power outages linked to geothermal testing and internal issues have caused a surge in customer damage claims.

Dominica: The Public Relations Officer for the Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC), Ayeola George, has disclosed that the number of damage claims from consumers has increased due to the recent power outages in the country.

The PRO for DOMLEC has not linked the power outages to the testing of the geothermal powerplant only, during the broadcast session with the media, she informed the citizens that the outages are related to both the commissioning of the geothermal power plant as well as the internal issues with the generation units at DOMLEC.

She then reported that the power cuts have caused damages to many of the citizen’s appliances, causing an increase in claims.

PRO Ayeola George has explained that for those who want to apply for a claim, the claiming process involves either downloading and filling the claim form or going directly to DOMLEC’s offices in Portsmouth or Roseau where they will be assisted accordingly.  She went on to share that following as assessment, the citizens will be reimbursed according to the value of the damaged appliance.

You apply and then someone would come at your home, look at the appliance, look at whatever has been affected, assess it, and then based on, I guess, the value of it, then you would be reimbursed, she stated.

For those who have or will apply for claims, George has urged them to remain patient as the Electricity Services is already having a backlog of claims from the previous year. She assured Dominicans that the Services is doing its best to meet everyone’s demands.

DOMLEC is backlogged with claims from probably even last year and with the recent outages, there has been an influx of claims to the commercial department. They're managing it the best they could, George informed the citizens.
