DOMLEC schedules April 17 power cuts for grid upgrade | Dominica News

Power outages across several Dominica communities are planned in phases to support geothermal integration, with engineers upgrading high-voltage systems.

Dominica: The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) has scheduled a power outage for a few communities in Dominica as it continues geothermal integration works in the country. DOMLEC has shared that some will experience the outage from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while others between 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On April 16, 2026, the Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) announced that electricity services in different communities will be interrupted on Friday, April 17, 2026, due to the integration of the geothermal energy plant in those communities.

The electricity service providers have shared that the power interruption is scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for communities in Trafalgar Falls entrance road (including Papillote), Laudat and Delices to Pagua / North End.  In addition, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., communities in Hodges, Woodford Hill, Palm Tree, Crompton Point, Eden Road, Wesley, Londonderry, Melville Hall and Marigot will be affected.

The purpose of the planned power outage, according to DOMLEC information, is to give engineers time to update the high-voltage system so that the geothermal plant can be safely connected to the electricity grid.

“This interruption is necessary to accommodate HV modifications for the integration of the Geothermal plant to DOMLEC’s grid,” wrote DOMLEC.

On its official Facebook site, DOMLEC has posted a notice of this brief outage, requesting the communities' cooperation and expressing regret for any difficulty that may occur during that time.

The impacted neighbourhood members were also notified by the services that the time is an estimate and that there may be a delay in the restoration of power services due to capacity or safety concerns.

Citizens residing in those areas have taken note of this, thanking DOMLEC for the information, stating that they will prepare accordingly.
