DOMLEC to hold community meetings in East Dominica | Dominica News

DOMLEC will host meetings on June 3-4 in Castle Bruce and La Plaine to address outages, service issues, and geothermal energy updates in East Dominica.

Dominica: The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) has announced that it will hold two community engagement meetings with different communities along the East Coast to address outages and service challenges. The meetings will be held on Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4, 2026, and will include residents from the Kalinago Territory to Delices.

The Dominica Electricity Services Limited shared this meeting notice to the general public on Saturday, May 30, 2026, where all details pertaining to the location, time and agenda were relayed to the community members.

For Wednesday, the meeting will be held at the Castle Bruce Primary School and for Thursday, it will take place at the Jones Beaupierre Primary School in La Plaine. DOMLEC has shared that the two scheduled meetings will start at 5:00 p.m., encouraging all communities to attend in order to get informed and updated on some important changes.

Moreover, consumers will also be given an opportunity to share their ideas and suggestions as the meetings will include both DOMLEC’S management and technical team who will be present to also answer questions and clear any doubt from the public.

The Electricity Services has shared that it will also provide updates and discuss the benefits of geothermal energy now that the power plant is almost ready to begin operations, with the commissioning and testing phase nearly complete.

A few days earlier, DOMLEC was seen sharing highlights of the tangible benefits geothermal has had in Dominica, reporting the renewable energy is now supplying 51 percent of the electricity in the country, which has significantly decreased the island’s dependency on diesel generation from 75 percent to 49 percent. In addition, geothermal energy has also decreased the fuel surcharge from $0.4953/kWh to $0.4627/kWh in the month of May.

The meeting notice was well received by the Eastern communities, with many looking forward to the day and the discussions which will take place. As DOMLEC shared the notice on its official Facebook page, a few citizens in the Eastern communities have taken to the comment section to praise the Services for this initiative, stating that it is “a constructive move.”

“This is a great initiative to improve communication and solve problems. Looking forward to seeing positive changes after these meetings,” commented Junior Donald.
