DOWASCO reports 60% progress on water pipeline project | Dominica News

DOWASCO reports over 60% completion of the Grand Fond–Morne Jaune pipeline under the WSSDP, with completion now set for September 2026.

Dominica: The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) has shared a key upgrade on the Water Sector Strategic Development Project (WSSDP), highlighting that installation of the cross-country supply pipeline from Grand Fond to Morne Jaune is more than 60% complete.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2026, the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO) announced that all four primary sub-project areas under the WSSDP have seen significant progress in the recent months. In their update, DOWASCO spotlighted the current status on one of the sites - the Grand Fond/Morne Jaune.

All pipes have been laid in Grand Fond with the pipeline installation from Grand Fond to Morne Jaune being more than 60 per cent complete. New storage tanks with capacities of 115,000 and 70,000 gallons have also been installed in both sites.

The water company also shared that the project experienced a few challenges which caused its progress to get delayed. The project’s date of completion was initially at the end of March, however, due to the unexpected delays, DOWASCO has pushed the completion date about 4 months forward to September 30, 2026.

“Various challenges have affected the progress of works to date to include weather related incidents, terrain, equipment and administrative delays. While the project was expected to be completed at the end of March, a new completion date of September 30, 2026, has been requested and approval is expected to be granted by the CDB shortly,” shared DOWASCO.

According to DOWASCO, the water project will greatly impact Dominica by completely modernising its water network. As it targets the water systems across the island, the project will benefit many communities, including Coulibistrie, Morne Rachette, Salisbury, and Grand Savanne on the west coast; Grand Fond to Morne Jaune and Castle Bruce on the east coast; as well as Calibishie in the north.
