EU Ambassador Fiona Ramsey visits Dominica… | Dominica News

EU Ambassador Fiona Ramsey visited Dominica’s cable car construction site, where officials briefed her on progress and the project’s development.

Dominica: European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Fiona Ramsey, paid a visit to the Dominica Cable Car construction site on November 3, 2026. She, along with her designation, was briefed about the progress on the construction of the project.

During their visit, Project Manager Victor Costa took Ramsey and her team on a tour of the site. He explained the ongoing work and showed them some of the facilities being developed. The delegation also toured the station building where they saw some of the construction equipment.

The visit offered the EU representative a chance to observe the development first-hand as Dominica works towards establishing a new attraction for visitors. The cable car is being constructed along a 6.6 km track that links the Roseau Valley to the area around Boiling Lake.

Upon completion, it will reduce travel time from a six-hour hiking trip to about 20 minutes. The cable car will pass through Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The project is being developed by ABL Holdings and Doppelmayr, an Austrian company. It is expected to include up to 65 cabins, each with a capacity to hold 10 people at a time, bringing the total number of passengers accommodated per hour to up to 1,000.

Ramsey’s visit comes as the European Union continues to strengthen its engagement with Caribbean countries. She has been serving as the Ambassador to Barbados since September 2025 and is also appointed as the Ambassador Designate to the Eastern Caribbean.

The work of the EU delegation within the region is expected to increase due to their reinforced regional presence, with a focus on advancing the Global Gateway strategy across the Caribbean.
