Clerk Neliscia Louis reported five homes completely damaged and at least 10 individuals displaced, with one bakery owner losing his business.
Dominica: The Atkinson Village Council has provided a report of the damages suffered from the flooding and landslides caused by the trough system last Sunday, on April 26, 2026.
This report was given by the Clerk of the Atkinson Village Council, Neliscia Louis, during the session with DBS News on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Clerk Neliscia Louis shared that the community is saddened and in a state of shock as many have been affected by the weather system.
In her address, she reported that a total of five homes have been completely damaged and at least 10 individuals have been displaced. In addition, one owner, has lost his bakery business.
According to the clerk, four of the destroyed homes were located behind Atkinson Primary School and one on the lower end which was submerged with water and is covered in mud. A few in the upper part and lower part of the community have also been damaged.
Reporting on the living conditions of the citizens, she shared that two people, an elderly lady and her son, are in the shelter, but the conditions of the rest are still not sorted. The Clerk of the Atkinson Village Council stated that the community is in need of drinking water, explaining that the available water is not suitable for drinking, and clothes as most have lost their personal belongings in the flooding.
Neliscia Louis has expressed gratitude to everyone who has provided assistance. She appreciated the Prime Minister’s relief efforts and his service to the community.
We have gotten a lot of outflows of people and we appreciate it. We accept everything and we are grateful for everybody who has turned out so far, the Prime Minister, the Ministers, and ODM (Office of Disaster Management), she expressed.
Last Sunday’s trough system had caused severe damages to communities in the East and Northeast, rendering some roads and bridges impassable and destroying homes and business.
