Former Minister Ian Pinard passes away at 54 in Dominica | Dominica News

Dominica mourns the sudden passing of Ian Pinard, a dedicated public servant and DLP Vice President who served as a former government minister and CEO of the Ai

Dominica: Ian Pinard, a key figure in Dominica’s Labour Party (DLP) and a public servant, has passed away at the age of 54, sending shockwaves throughout the country. His 20 years of dedication towards DLP have left a lasting legacy in Dominica.  

The Dominica Labour Party On Friday, April 17, 2026, confirmed Ian Pinard’s death. He was an important figure in the country; not only was he the Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA), but he was also a former Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Minister for Public Works and Ports.  

Moreover, Ian Pinard also served as the nation’s Vice President of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) from 2024 until the time of his passing.   

In all his roles, Ian Pinard’s service was characterised as devoted, disciplined, and one that left a lasting mark on everyone.  

Upon hearing news of his death, many have taken to different social media platforms to extend their condolences and share heartfelt messages about Pinard’s life.  

The Government of Dominica has extended its condolences to family, friends and loved ones, remembering his significant contributions to national development and public service as part of his legacy.   

On his Facebook page, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shared, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of my dear friend, colleague and former Government Minister, Ian Pinard, who gave many years of committed service to the people of Dominica and contributed meaningfully to the advancement of our country. His passing is a profound personal loss.”

PM Skerrit went on to write about Pinard’s life and his personality, labelling him as a “devoted servant” and a person who “cared deeply about his country and who valued the relationships he built along the way.” 

Remembering his family and close friends in this time of grief, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit also shared a post on Facebook to pay tribute to his life.

Moreover, Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority, the Ministry of Tourism, St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority and many others have also taken to Facebook to extend their heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and loved ones.
