Minister Laville said restoring access to Calis Bridge is a priority after flooding and landslides disrupted transport and essential services in Castle Bruce.
Dominica: Minister of Health, Wellness and Social Services, Cassanni Laville, has visited the Castle Bruce Health District to conduct an assessment of the damages caused by the devastating trough system in Dominica on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The Minister assessed the Calis Bridge and met with the Castle Bruce health team, encouraging them to continue in their commitment to serving the residents.
Minister Cassanni Laville was accompanied by other members of Cabinet and District Medical Officer, Dr. Gbenga Charles, who visited the local health centres to evaluate the physical damages from flooding and landslides.
During the visit, the team went to inspect the Calis Bridge in Castle Bruce, to ensure that it is safe for public use. While there, the Minister, members of Cabinet, Dr. Charles and the technical team observed that due to the heavy rain, the river had filled the bridge with water and debris. The water had also eaten away the dirt and pavement where the road meets the bridge.
