Lupus Foundation to Launch Nationwide Survey in Dominica | Dominica News

Dominica’s Lupus Foundation will launch a nationwide survey during Lupus Awareness Month to assess cases and improve data on the disease.

Dominica: The Lupus Foundation in Dominica has announced that it will launch a nationwide survey to better map the exact medical and social impact of the disease across the island. This initiative runs alongside a broader calendar of public solidarity events currently taking place in Dominica for the Lupus Awareness Month which began on May 1, 2026.

This announcement was shared by the President and founder of the Lupus Foundation, Glorine Thomas, who spoke of the survey’s importance, stating that currently, the exact number of people living with lupus remains unknown and the survey will help the organisation acquire such data.

According to President Glorine Thomas, the organisation has partnered with an international body, which will fund the survey initiative in order to make it as successful and effective as possible, with the aim of maximizing the survey’s reach.

We put in a proposal to an international body so they are going to help us to fund it to be a  proper survey so that we can have correct figures and database information on the number of people with lupus in Dominica, stated President Glorine Thomas.

Moreover, the Lupus Foundation has also reached out to other lupus foundations in the region to provide the citizens with accurate information and to raise awareness in the country.

President Thomas informed the media that there are new symptoms for the disease, not only the usual fatigue, joint pain and rash that people are used to. She explained that there are cases that someone has complained of being bothered by a finger and after doing tests, it turned out to be lupus.

She said all this to encourage the citizens to take their health seriously and be well informed, inviting them to participate in the survey.
