The Ministry of Agriculture met with farmers in the East Agricultural Region to discuss flood damage, coordinate relief, and gather feedback for ongoing support
Dominica: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy called all farmers, with the inclusion of aquaculture farmers, in the East Agricultural Region to an important meeting on Friday, May 1, 2026. This meeting follows the Ministry’s assessments of the damages caused by the trough system last Sunday.
At 11:30 a.m., the Ministry met with the farmers of Castle Bruce at the Regional Emergence Shelter and later during the day, they had two more sessions with other farmers in different communities. This was to ensure that all farmers are reached effectively.
For agricultural workers from Atkinson, Bataca, Antrizile, Concord, and nearby hamlets, the Ministry organised a session at 3 p.m., which was held at the Atkinson Primary School. Those from the Kalinago Territory, including Sineku, Bataka, Crayfish River, St. Cyr, Gaulette River, and Mahaut River, had their meeting at the Salybia Primary School from 5 p.m.
During the meeting, the Ministry and farmers had important discussions on matters affecting the agricultural community and how to coordinate relief for the farmers. The Ministry provided the farmers with important updates and listened to their views and feedback.
Despite the short notice, the meeting announcement was well received by the agricultural workers, who showed up in numbers and were given a platform to give their individual reports on the losses they’ve suffered during the flooding.
The notice was shared on Facebook by the Agricultural Ministry and a few farmers who were present left comments, sharing their experience.
A farmer under Frank Chris wrote, “This meeting was well needed. Thank you Agricultural Ministry for all the efforts you’re taking to serve us.”
The Ministry of Agriculture shared that it remains committed to supporting the farmers and providing them with what’s needed to offer relief and advance the agriculture sector in the country.
