Miriam Blanchard resigns as Roseau North MP on medical grounds, with PM Skerrit praising her decade of service and assuring continued government support.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has extended a gratitude message to Miriam Blanchard the former Parliamentary Representative for Roseau North upon receiving news of her resignation. The Minister released an official statement on Friday, June 12, 2026, thanking her for nearly ten years of service and assuring the residents that the Government will continue to serve them until the next election.

Miriam Blanchard’s decision to resign from the Roseau North seat was strictly on medical grounds as she wishes to focus on her treatment and recovery. In his official statement, Prime Minister Skerrit confirmed her resignation and spoke of Miriam Blanchard’s years of service.

Skerrit began his statement by saying, “Following today's announcement regarding the resignation of the Honourable Miriam Blanchard as the Parliamentary Representative for Roseau North, I wish to express the deepest sentiments of a grateful government and nation for her extraordinary years of service.”

He went on to highlight some of the advancements that the city saw and praised her for serving with commitment and selflessness, describing her tenure as one marked by both dedication and distinction.

“For nearly ten years, Miriam served the people of Dominica in Cabinet with distinction — leading the reconstruction of our country's infrastructure after Tropical Storm Erika, guiding our planning and economic development and championing our workers, our public servants and our small businesses,” stated the Prime Minister.

He further added, “Throughout this journey, even as the inherent fragilities of life and health became apparent, her perseverance never wavered. As she steps away to focus fully on making a complete recovery, I pray that the same remarkable resilience which she brought to the service of our country continues to hold her in good strain, bringing her comfort and renewed strength during this season of healing.”

The National Leader announced that a by-election is scheduled to be conducted within the period stipulated by the Constitution, assuring the residents that their interests will continue to be represented without interruption.

Skerrit ended his statement by pledging continued support from both the Government and the Dominica Labour Party, declaring that they will stand by Miriam’s side during her recovery journey. He underscored that Miriam’s legacy is “securely written into the progress of our nation.”
