New Health and Wellness Centre Opens in Savanne Paille | Dominica News

Dominica’s new health and wellness centre in Savanne Paille opens on April 20, 2026, providing maternity, child health, and cancer screening services.

Dominica: The Government of Dominica has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare access in the country as it unveils a new health and wellness centre for the citizens living in Savanne Paille. The Savanne Paille Health Centre was opened on April 20, 2026, to bring quality and accessible healthcare closer to the people.  

This health and wellness centre was opened by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services as part of the activities scheduled for the Dr Carissa Etienne Primary Health Care Week, which was dedicated to honouring the legacy of Dr Carissa F. Etienne, the former Director of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).  

The new facility was officially opened on Monday, April 20, 2026, however, for two weeks, the centre will conduct walk-in comprehensive assessments. According to the Ministry of Health, the normal appointments and scheduled clinics will begin from May.

Moreover, the Ministry has also shared the list of services which will be offered in the centre, which includes, maternity and child health, adolescent health services, comprehensive care and DMO clinic. Moreover, home and household visits, school health programs, diabetics and hypertensive care and most importantly, cancer screening and prevention services will also be available. 

The Ministry of Health took to Facebook to inform the general public of this healthcare milestone, noting the role the centre will play in serving the citizens of Savanne Paille.  

On their post, the Ministry wrote, “This facility represents more than just a building; it is a commitment to stronger communities, improved health outcomes, and a future where every resident can access the care they deserve. With this new centre, we take another step toward holistic, people-centered care for all. Here’s to healthier families, stronger communities, and continued progress.” 

A few citizens have taken to comment section, praising the Government for this initiative.  

“We love to see progress in our healthcare, this will serve us well,” commented Jilliana Morris.
