Over 100 professionals trained in laparoscopic surgery | Dominica News

The Dominica Hospitals Authority says over 100 medical professionals completed laparoscopic training conducted with support from visiting Chinese medical team.

Dominica: The Dominica Hospitals Authority (DHA) announced that more than one hundred medical professionals have received laparoscopic training on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to expand their knowledge and skills in their field and better serve the citizens of Dominica.

According to the Hospitals Authority, the professionals participated in a total of eighteen sessions, which were conducted by the seventh Chinese medical team that flew to Dominica for live mentorship.

The eighteen sessions covered a variety of instructional and practical training programs for both basic surgical methods and minimally invasive procedures, helping the trainees master how to handle surgical tools and how to stitch inside the body.

One of the doctors, Dr. Dellaria Bobb, who received the training, shared her views about the programme, stating that it was a rewarding experience, and the one-on-one session with the doctor helped her gain eye-hand coordination and other skills.

This time I had the pleasure, the absolute great opportunity to do this laparoscopic training programme with a doctor who was incredibly patient and who taught very well. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and I also learned a lot. And now it has given me a better outlook on my future, what I want to get into, and what I would do to help continue building my country and our medical system, stated Dr. Bobb.

DHA shared this important highlight on its Facebook page, underscoring what the training sessions mean for strengthening Dominica’s health care.   In their post, the Authority wrote, “This training has already made a positive difference, improving safety, efficiency, and the quality of care across our hospital.”

It went on to thank the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its commitment and support to advancing health care in the country.

A heartfelt thank you to the Government and people of the People's Republic of China, Guangzhou Medical University and its affiliated hospital for their expertise, equipment, overseas training centre and support in making this possible, shared Dominica Hospitals Authority.
