PM Skerrit praises Ashma McDougall's vision for Roseau North | Dominica News

PM Roosevelt Skerrit endorsed Ashma McDougall, praising her leadership, vision and commitment during the launch of her Roseau North by-election campaign.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has endorsed businesswoman Ashma C. McDougall during the official launch of her campaign on Sunday, stating that she is the most suitable candidate for the Roseau North constituency and that she possesses the leadership qualities needed to guide Roseau North into the future.

Prime Minister Skerrit declared this during the official launch of Ashma McDougall’s Roseau North by-election campaign on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

During his address at the rally, the Prime Minister described Ashma McDougall as a person who is not only committed to serving the citizens but one who also has the qualities that empower her to lead and make a meaningful impact.

I see young people filled with hope. I see mothers and fathers looking towards the future with confidence. I see people from every walk of life embracing the possibility of a new chapter in the proud history of Roseau North. And why should they not be excited? They are looking at a candidate who is not only committed to service, but one who is equipped with the knowledge, experience, energy and innovative thinking required for the times in which we live, stated the Prime Minister.

Dr. Skerrit noted that selecting Ashma to represent Roseau North, the Dominica Labour Party looked beyond finding a person who simply understood politics; the Party went further to identify a candidate who understands people, economics, recognizes opportunities for growth, embraces innovation, and has the vision to position Dominica for success in an evolving global landscape.

“When the Dominica Labour Party began thinking about the future of Roseau North, we did not start by asking who was available. We did not start by asking who had contested before. We did not start by asking who could simply inherit a political organisation and continue business as usual,” explained Dr. Skerrit, further adding, “The future demanded fresh thinking. The future demanded new energy. The future demanded someone who could appreciate the changing nature of the world while remaining deeply connected to the everyday concerns of ordinary people. That is where Ashma entered the conversation.”

The National Leader asserted that he has full confidence in Ashma and her vision for the Roseau North Constituency.

Prime Minister Skerrit declared, She has shown me that she sees Roseau North not simply as it is today, but as it can become tomorrow. When I look at Ashma, I am excited about the future of Roseau North. I see what can happen when a country invests in its people and those people decide to give something back. I see someone who could have chosen a comfortable path but instead chose service. I see someone who believes that success means little if it is not used to improve the lives of others.

Skerrit encouraged eligible voters to register and participate in the upcoming by-election, noting its significance for Roseau North and Dominica.
