PM Skerrit attends 78th OECS Leaders Meeting | Dominica News

PM Skerrit joins OECS leaders in Antigua for talks on economic growth, climate resilience, security, and regional cooperation across member states.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit is currently in Antigua and Barbuda for the 78th Meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority where he, along with other Heads of Government of the OECS Member States, are engaging in high level talks on matters of regional importance.

The 78th OECS Authority Meeting was scheduled to take place for two days, officially beginning on Sunday, June 21, 2026, and concluding on Monday, June 22, 2026. The Meeting commenced with an opening ceremony where the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, assumed Chairmanship of the OECS Authority from Dr. Godwin Friday, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to the information provided by the Government of Dominica, Prime Minister Skerrit and other Heads of Government are engaging in discussions centred on economic development, climate resilience, and security. Moreover, discussions on food and energy security, freedom of movement, and strengthened cooperation in different areas such as health, education, and digital transformation were also a priority.

These discussions will contribute to the region’s development and advancement and are key to ensuring that policies are strategically created to benefit citizens across all Member States.

While the National Leader is away for this critical meeting, the Government of Dominica has announced that Dr. Irving McIntyre, the Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, is serving as the Acting Prime Minister.

The Government has shared this information on its official Facebook page, informing the general public of the Minister’s absence where a few citizens, understanding the importance of the meeting, have taken to the comment section, voicing support for the Minister’s participation in the meeting.
