Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit congratulated Ashma McDougall after her Roseau North by-election victory, where she secured 1,473 votes.
Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has extended his congratulations to the new Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau North Constituency, Ashma C. McDougall, for a landslide victory in the recently held by-election. Ashma McDougall of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won the Roseau North by-election by a total of 1,473 votes, surpassing Daniel Andrew Lugay of United Worker's Party (UWP) by 475 votes.
The Prime Minister shared this during his live press conference with members of the media on Wednesday, September 9, where he addressed the nation on matters of national importance.
Let me first, congratulate the new Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau North Constituency, Miss Ashma McDougall, for her resounding victory in the by-election of September 7th, 2026. She worked hard, and I believe that she deserves that victory, stated Prime Minister Skerrit.
Skerrit noted that Ashma now has a responsibility to "remain present, accessible and focused" while delivering for the people of Roseau North. He added that the Government of Dominica will collaborate with her to ensure the citizens' needs are addressed.
The National Leader declared, I want to assure the people of Roseau North that the government will work closely with her to advance the development priorities of the Roseau North Constituency. We will review the immediate needs of the various communities and determine how best to address them within the resources available to the state.
Dr. Skerrit extended his gratitude to the Labour Party team who made the campaign a success, appreciating their hard work during the two-month campaign. He also thanked the other candidates, as well as the Electoral Commission, the Chief Elections Officer, and staff of the Electoral Office for what he described as the free and fair conduct of Dominica’s first election with voter identification.
Following his press conference, the Prime Minister took to Facebook where he reiterated his congratulatory message to Ashma and further thanked the community of Roseau North for the trust they have placed in the DLP and its candidate to serve and lead them towards a better future for all.

According to the official results announced by the Dominica Electoral Office, Ashma gained a total of 1,473 votes, while Daniel Lugay secured 998 votes and Sherman Boston 49 votes. A total of 2,566 citizens had casted their ballots of which 46 were rejected.
