PM Skerrit held consultations in Marigot on developing the Fisheries Complex as an entry port, assuring fishers their livelihoods will not be affected.
Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit hosted a second consultation meeting with stakeholders in Marigot as the Government continues in its efforts to designate the Marigot Fisheries Complex to an official port of entry for the area. The meeting was held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, where the Prime Minister addressed key plans on how to balance both fishing activities and port operations.
During this second round of consultations, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the fishers in Marigot and focused on creating a framework of how their fishing activities can coexist with the port operation at the facility.
He formally assured the fishers that their livelihoods will not be negatively impacted nor disrupted by the upcoming port operations. Instead, the Minister highlighted that making the Marigot Fisheries Complex an official port of entry will expand and create new opportunities in the fishing sector for the Marigot and Northeast communities.
PM Skerrit shared picture highlights of his consultations with the local fishers on Facebook, where he highlighted the key points which were addressed on Thursday.
In his post the Minister wrote, The meeting with fishers focused mainly on their role in the initiative and how fishing activities and port operations can successfully coexist at the facility.
He further added, “I assured the fishers that port operations will not negatively impact their livelihoods or disrupt their regular activities. Instead, this is intended to create new opportunities while supporting the continued growth and development of the fishing sector in Marigot and the wider northeast.”

This initiative has been well received by the citizens of Dominica including the fishers, the local committee and the Village Council in Marigot, with whom the PM engaged with on his previous meetings.
Citizens of Dominica have taken to the comment section to praise the Government’s efforts, stating that the project will bring great benefit to the fishing industry, boosting economic activity in the communities.
