PM Skerrit heads to Martinique, Saint Lucia for key meetings | Dominica News

PM Skerrit is attending regional meetings in Martinique and Saint Lucia to discuss security, climate resilience, economic integration and CARICOM priorities.

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has travelled to Martinique to attend both the CCRAG Conference and the Caribbean Regional Security Conference on Friday, July 3, 2026. PM Skerrit will also head to Saint Lucia for the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 8, 2026.

The National Leader has underscored the importance of these meetings in addressing the region's most pressing challenges and strengthening cooperation and collective action.

During his press conference with members of the media on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Prime Minister Skerrit announced his participation in the Conferences, sharing that discussions will address economic, security, health, cost of living, and climate-related issues. He noted the importance of having a unified stance when addressing these issues and implementing practical solutions for the advancement of the region.

Skerrit also reaffirmed the Government's commitment by declaring, Dominica will continue to advocating practical solutions that strengthen resilience, deepen Caribbean integration, and improve the lives of our people.

He departed the country on Friday and has participated in the Conférence de Coopération Régionale Antilles-Guyane (CCRAG) in Martinique where he discussed disaster preparedness, climate resilience, transportation, security, health and sustainable development with other regional leaders and partners.

While in Martinique, he also attended the Joint Session of the Caribbean Regional Security Conference where he spoke about the evolving security challenges facing the region, including border security, cyber security, disaster resilience, food and energy security, and the protection of our democratic institutions.

From Martinique, Dr. Skerrit will head to Gros Islet, Saint Lucia for the 51st CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting which will begin this weekend. According to Prime Minister Skerrit, a significant portion of the discussions at the meeting will focus on the cost of living currently affecting every country in CARICOM, explaining that it will be the regional leaders’ main priority.

Heads of government will consider several important regional priorities, including security, food protection, climate resilience, renewable energy, regional transportation, economic integration, development in Haiti, and youth development, and also of the highest order and priority, the cost of living, which is affecting every single CARICOM country, explained Prime Minister Skerrit.
